Static, falling force

in splendid magnificence

streaming red, yellow, orange down

among multi-hued greens

glowing in sun-captured leaves

midst silent encroachment

spreading swiftly each day

until color flow depleted.

I found this storied rock today

from ancient Canadian craton

relic of Rodinia

more likely Pangea piece

as super-continent clue

long ago solidified

as planetary crust

keeping its deep-time secrets

beyond imagination’s limit

fleeting human certitude

only unrequited wonderment.

Two Cousins

One plumpish
sleek the other
long, sharp bills akin

larger white-breasted
smaller stunning
with cinnamon chest

chance encounter
on suspended feeder
sharing reunion feast.
