Sun-drenched, seasonal days
alternating with lesser light
casting off late summer’s green
for technicolor makeover
filling up forest spaces
scarlet reds, orange, yellow
alchemizing northern woods
every other leaf turned golden
amassing autumnal riches
to appease the winter gods.
