Liberation day
self-declared independence
I finally let my children go
son Ned thirty-one
daughter Eliza
nearly thirty-five
their lives now completely theirs
no more second, third, fourth-guessing
by Roberta-mother-me
I resolutely stand aside
eager to watch and applaud
their high-stepping parades
relinquishing all my rights
and parental expectations
born with motherhood.
