A passing tableau
black and white cows
grazing, gazing
sends the mind
to familiar place
without a name
for the painter
from Vermont
resistance builds
against remembering
pause the process
talk, think
in alternate track
yet his name
stays away
at memory’s edge
minutes later
the cows return
tickling the mind
tantalizingly close
tip of the tongue
almost, almost
hours later
another peek
through the cobwebs
nearly reveals
a helpful glimpse
still blank unfilled
days later
with no priming
Woody’s name
pops out unannounced
relief comes
with recalling
brain remains
in working order.
